Most people look at the biggest number on a rate sheet. That price is rarely what your load will get. Check these five things before you sell.
1. The modal price is the real guide
The maximum price went to a small amount of the very best produce. Most deals happen around the modal (average) price, so plan with that.
2. Watch arrivals
When arrivals jump on a day, the price drops quickly. If arrivals have stayed low for two or three days, prices are more likely to hold.
3. Compare two or three nearby markets
If a market 30 km away pays ₹200 more per quintal, work out whether that is still a gain after transport.
4. Look at the trend, not one day
One day's price can mislead. A two-week chart tells you whether prices are rising or falling.
5. Grade your produce
Mixing good and poor quality pulls the whole lot down to a lower rate. Even basic grading can get you more than the average.
The Kisanians app shows all of these numbers, with dates, in one place every day.
